The Trial of Dedan Kimathi is play by Ngugi wa Thiong'o and Micere Githae Mugo that explores the British oppression Kenya through the eyes of the leader of the Mau Mau rebellion, Dedan Kimathi. The themes of oppression, race, and subjugation expand beyond the world of Kenya and are still prevalent in todays society. The play was set in the round with an interesting seating configuration that forced the audiences to be within the world of the action. The goal of the design team was to create the sense of a world in which the feeling of oppression and danger were inescapable.
